The Zamboanga delegation reaped 59 medals including 26 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze, placing 9th in the overall standing in the just concluded Batang Pinoy National Competition held in General Santos City.
A total of 182 local government units from all over the country participated in the Batang Pinoy Games, the national youth sports competition held annually.
A proud moment for Zamboangueños during 2025 Batang Pinoy Games was the achievement of chess wizard Christian Gian Carlo Arca, who contributed 8 medals – 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze to the city’s medal haul.
Councilor Bong Atilano, who, together with City Sports Division Chief Dr Cecil Atilano supervised the city’s participation in the Gensan competition, expressed confidence that Arca would be a chess grandmaster in the future.
The city government under the administration of Mayor Khymer Olaso is expresses pride and admiration to the 264-strong Zamboanga delegation for its stellar performance during the weeklong competition, Oct. 25-31.
