The City of Malaybalay was declared the overall champion at the recently concluded Kaamulan Festival 2025, held on April 12, 2025.

Malaybalay triumphed over four other contenders—Valencia City and the municipalities of Cabanglasan and Libona—in the festival’s street dancing, ground presentation, and float competition.

The city’s captivating performances revolved around Tumbaga Ha Sungay, a Binukid term that translates to “flaming horn.”

This powerful theme served as the soul of both the street dancing and ground presentations, vividly portraying the rich cultural heritage of the Bukidnon Tribe, particularly from Barangay Linabo.

The performers told the story of a mystical horn—representing strength, unity, and the enduring spirit of the Bukidnon people—which became a symbol of triumph throughout the performances.

The heartfelt energy and passion from the performers were truly captivating. Every movement, every gesture told a story of cultural pride, paying homage to the traditions that have shaped the community.

The choreography, music, and costumes all seamlessly blended to reflect the spirit of the festival and the community’s deep connection to its roots.

Excitement and anticipation were palpable on the faces of performers, choreographers, and city leaders as they awaited the results.

When Malaybalay’s victory was declared, the atmosphere became electric, filled with cheers of joy and even tears of happiness, marking the culmination of months of preparation and dedication.

Malaybalay City took home the championship in both the street dancing and ground presentation categories, while securing 1st runner-up in the float competition—showcasing the city’s exceptional talent and creativity.

This victory would not have been possible without the strong support and leadership of City Mayor Atty. Jay Warren R. Pabillaran, along with the dedicated efforts of the Technical Working Group, headed by City Administrator Atty. Anna Marie R. Bergado. Their unwavering support, commitment, and hard work were instrumental in making this achievement a reality.

As Malaybalay continues to shine in the spotlight of the Kaamulan Festival, this victory serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of cultural preservation and community unity.

With every performance, every dance, and every step, the City of Malaybalay honors its rich heritage and the stories passed down through generations.
